Secure Your Wheels with Quality Wheel Lugs

Whether you're restoring a classic or fixing your own ride, Granbury Nissan always has all the parts you need. Wheel lugs secure your wheels to the vehicle hub and keep them safely attached during operation. We stock genuine Nissan wheel lugs designed specifically for your Maxima and Xterra. Aftermarket wheel lugs frequently use softer metals that strip threads or break under proper torque specifications.

The Purpose of Wheel Lugs

Wheel lugs are threaded fasteners that clamp your wheels firmly against the hub assembly. Each lug nut tightens onto a wheel stud to create secure contact between the wheel and hub. The conical or spherical seats on lug nuts center the wheel properly during installation. Proper torque specifications ensure wheels stay attached without warping brake rotors or damaging threads. Most vehicles use four to six lugs per wheel depending on size and weight. These fasteners handle enormous forces from acceleration, braking, and cornering during normal driving.

Why Wheel Lugs Fail

Cross-threading during installation damages the threads permanently and reduces clamping force. Over-torquing with impact wrenches stretches or breaks the stud material. Under-torquing allows wheels to loosen gradually, causing vibration and potential wheel separation. Corrosion from road salt and moisture seizes lugs to studs, making removal difficult. Generic aftermarket lugs often use incorrect thread pitch or seat angles that don't match properly. Temperature cycling causes expansion and contraction that can loosen improperly torqued lugs.

When Wheel Lugs Need Attention

Check wheel lug torque after any tire service or wheel removal to ensure proper tightness. Vibrations felt through the steering wheel can indicate loose wheel lugs requiring immediate inspection. Visible rust or corrosion on exposed threads suggests replacement is necessary. Stripped or damaged threads prevent proper tightening and demand immediate lug replacement. Replace wheel lugs any time threads show wear or damage during routine maintenance. Inspecting wheel lugs along with brake rotors during brake service ensures complete wheel assembly safety.
